Thornton Heath Festival attracts thousands

8:53am Wednesday 8th September 2010

Thousands of people descended on Thornton Heath on Sunday for the third annual festival.

Bellydancers, gospel choirs and youth salsa dance troupes were just some of the acts on offer at the festival, designed to showcase the area’s musical talent as well as helping to raise awareness of local businesses.

Green Party member, Shasha Khan, said: “I don’t think there is another festival like it in Croydon.

“Speaking to the organisers and stewards, who again did a fantastic job, they reckoned about 5,000 people attended throughout the day.

“Yet again the event was nothing short of a sensory treat. The sounds and colours from the steel bands and carnival procession brought the Caribbean to Thornton Heath High Street.”
