Neighbours of New Addington girl killed in crash glorify dangerous driving online

Neighbours of a girl who died in a joyriding smash last month have been glorifying dangerous driving on the internet.

Videos posted on YouTube under the names Crazycudham and Cudhamboyz show people driving at high speed around New Addington and Croydon on motorcycles and in high-performance cars.

The drivers, from the same road as 17-year-old Mikeala Stevens, who was killed when the car she was travelling in slammed into a telegraph pole, can be seen drag-racing and stunt driving at high speed.

The dangerous races, uploaded some time ago, show people pulling wheelies and speeding perilously close to each other. They are poorly shot on camera phones and are still occurring, according to New Addington councillor George Ayres.

Coun Ayres said: “This has been a problem for quite some time now.

“There have been a number of fatalities here, some of which involve kids taking cars without permission.

“The council needs to make a more practical approach to the problem.

“Speed humps are not the answer because they do not slow down drivers who are hell-bent on exceeding the speed limit.

“A bit more action needs to be taken to prevent these endurances.”

The thing about this sort of behaviour is that if you live long enough, most people do actually grow up and grow out of it.

If you have managed to live through it and not maimed or killed anyone, the worst thing is looking back and thinking 'what a prat - did I really think I was cool?' and you begin to realise why people never took you seriously, just as you now cannot take these chavs seriously.

Youth is most certainly wasted on the young. Strong parental guidance (of the right sort) might help.

It's not really the council's problem is it Coun Ayres? It's the parents and the police who have problems here!!!

What is wrong with these people? Why glorify this behaviour? Here in ireland 4 kids aged 15 to 17 were killed in a car a couple of weeks ago, and 3 days later 7 kids had an accident in another car. Will they ever learn? I knew Mikaela. A lovely, vibrant, bubbly girl. What a waste. What heartbreak for her family. God help them.
