A woman has been found dead on the rail line at Norwood Junction.
It is believed she was hit by the train and subsequently died.
Officers were called to the line at 7.31pm last night to reports a person had been found on the track.
Paramedics arrived but declared the woman dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "BTP officers attended the line near to Norwood Junction rail station on Wednesday, November 17 following a report of a woman being struck by a train.
"Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended the incident, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident was reported to police at 7.31pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
"A file will be prepared for the coroner."
The train involved was the 6.22pm service from Guildford to London Victoria.
