Youths in Croydon will see a documentary they filmed on the big screen this weekend.
Route to Respect, with an accompanying photography exhibition will be shown as part of We the Peoples international film festival at the British Film Institute.
MP Gavin Barwell said the film was “pretty inspirational”.
The young people interviewed Mr Barwell, Croydon’s Borough Commander, Adrian Roberts and residents about common misunderstandings surrounding the 50,000 young people who move around the borough each school day.
Chloe Douglas, who directed the film, said: “When we got together this summer, we knew that we would learn film, photography and animation skills. Though we didnʼt know each other, we quickly realised we had some experiences in common. Route to Respect is our take on one of those issues.”
The young filmmakers have taken been taking part in Youth Mosaic: Croydon Media Mash-up – a Media Box funded project run by Croydon Supplementary Education Project (CSEP) and DiMuro Film and Photography.
We the Peoples takes place at the BFI NFT3 on November 27, for more information go to www.wethepeoples.org.uk
