Fashion fanatics turned up in their droves last week for the highly-awaited grand opening of clothing store Primark.

The opening of the bargain-lovers' paradise saw hundreds of Croydon's dedicated followers of fashion flock to North End for the unveiling of the town centre's latest store last Thursday.

"We are pleased to have seen such a positive reaction and had such a warm welcome from the people of Croydon at the opening of the new Primark store."

The store, famed for its cheap prices, has been a hit within fashion circles in recent years with items from the store featuring in pages of fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Glamour.

After news broke of Primark's impending arrival last September, shoppers have been waiting with bated breath for the opening, with opinions split on whether the store would be suitable for Croydon town centre. But after a successful first week, Primark representatives are confident of success in Croydon.

A spokesman said: "We are pleased to have seen such a positive reaction and had such a warm welcome from the people of Croydon at the opening of the new Primark store.

"Everyone involved with Primark is delighted at the high number of shoppers who have been attracted to the store. We are confident our customers will continue to enjoy the shopping experience for a long while to come."

Croydon Business town centre manager Ros Morgan says she is sure Primark will become a popular place for Croydon's fashion-conscious.

She said: "I am impressed by the look and feel of the store both inside and out.

"The store manager is delighted to be opening in Croydon and envisages it to be be one of Primark's most lucrative stores."
