Detectives are still waiting to question a man about the death of his wife after he was found unconscious at the scene.

A murder investigation was launched after Winifred Crowther, 83, was found stabbed to death in her home in Lumley Road, Sutton, on December 9.

Her 87-year-old husband, Ron Crowther, was found unconscious at their marital home after taking an suspected overdose.

Police said at this point they were not looking for anyone else in connection with their investigations.

It is understood Mrs Crowther suffered from Alzheimers disease and was being cared for by Mr Crowther.

According to neighbours Mrs Crowther's health had deteriorated sharply in the months before her death.

It was the couple’s neighbours who contacted the police after noticing the couples lights had not been on for two days.

Prior to their retirement it's understood Ron worked for the Navy and had served in the Second World War and Winifred used to work in a shoe shop in Cheam village.

Ron, full name Frank Ronald Crowther, is the half-brother of ITV's Price is Right host Leslie from his father's first marriage. Leslie died of heart failure in 1996 aged 63.
