Wimbledon officially took its place in the House of Lords this week after a Merton councillor donned the infamous ermine robes for the first time.
Councillor Tariq Ahmad, who represents Wimbledon Park ward, was ennobled as Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon on Monday after being nominated for a peerage by Prime Minister David Cameron.
Lord Ahmad said: “There are many challenges that we face today and I believe my experience in business affairs, as well as an understanding of the communities that make up Britain today, will allow me to contribute to debates across many areas.”
