Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was found burned in South Croydon woodland.

Officers were called to Bankside next to Croham Hurst Woods to reports of a man on fire.

The London Ambulance Service and Croydon fire fighters found the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called at around 4.15pm yesterday (Wednesday) to reports of a man on fire in Croham Woods.

"We attended with the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade and found a man on fire.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is being treated an unexplained at this stage."
