Blackmail charges against two former security and cleaning contractors at Kingston Hospital have been dropped.

Alain Ilunga, 44, and Solomon Melchizedek, 48, both bosses of ISS Mediclean at the hospital, were arrested in November 2009 after allegations they were blackmailing illegal immigrants for thousands of pounds.

Their trial on blackmail and fraud charges was due to begin this week but it has emerged all charges were dropped at a pre-trial hearing at Kingston Crown Court on January 11.

Mr Ilunga, of Brompton Gardens, Luton, has been cleared of abusing his position to demand £500 from an employee to buy himself a camera.

Mr Melchizedek, of Rosemary Gardens, Croydon, has been cleared of demanding £300 from one employee and £170 from another.

Further charges of blackmailing illegal immigrants out thousands of pounds were levelled at the pair at a later court hearing in June but have since been dropped.

The pair no longer work for the company, the court heard.

Kingston Hospital has a contract with ISS Mediclean to provide security, cleaning and parking at the hospital.
