A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after two cars were involved in a head-on crash this morning.

The collision took place in York Road, Battersea, close to the Shell garage, shortly after midnight.

Firefighters from Battersea station were called at 12.24am to clear the wreckage from the road but Green Watch Manager Mick Gomm said there was “considerably more than expected”.

He added: “The wreckage of both cars was strewn across the road and one car was on the pavement.”

Watch Manager Gomm said police officers breathalised the drivers, with one testing positive for alcohol.

Those involved in the crash - the 33-year-old man and two men in their mid 20s - were all injured, but none seriously.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We sent two ambulance crews and staff treated three patients at the scene but none were taken to hospital.”

A spokeswoman for Wandsworth police said one man had been arrested and an investigation was ongoing.
