Officers are investigating reports of a shooting at a Wandsworth college this afternoon, police have confirmed.

Details of the apparent attack at South Thames College, in Wandsworth High Street, are still coming in but a spokeswoman for Wandsworth police revealed officers were looking into reports that a shot - or shots - were fired during a fight “involving a number of people”.

However, a spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said two ambulance crews were sent to the college just before 1.45pm to reports of a “stabbing”.

She said two patients were immediately taken to a south London hospital - one as a priority.

The police spokeswoman said “two males” suffered injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. It is not yet known how old those involved in the attack are.

No arrests have yet been made and police remain at the scene while enquiries continue.

South Thames College has released a statement, which said: “We can confirm that a serious incident took place at the entrance to the college’s Wandsworth campus.

“Emergency services were called immediately by a member of staff and arrived promptly. A college student was treated for minor injuries on site.

“The college is cooperating fully with the police in this matter.

“South Thames College has rigorous security systems in place to ensure the safety of its learners including a security barrier in the entrance, a ‘no ID, no entry’ policy for all staff and students and security guards positioned throughout the campus.

“Feedback from our learners consistently confirms their experience of the college as a safe place to learn.

“We continue to review and monitor the effectiveness of our procedures in order to ensure the safety of both our learners and our staff.”
