Hundreds of mourners have packed into a church to say goodbye to ‘an exceptional young man.’ More than 400 relatives, friends and classmates of Oluwatobi Adeyemi,16, packed into pews at Croydon Parish Church, Croydon, for the service in celebration of his life.

A number of moving tributes were made about the teenager, who was known by friends as Tobi and attended the Sutton Christian Centre.

The Whitgift School sixth-former was described by his Form Master Mr Ellis, as an exceptional young man who was “exceptionally generous, giving his time, warmth and friendship selflessly.”

Mr Ellis said: “When there was an opportunity to give something back, Tobi was there giving generously.”

During the service a tribute video created by friends of the popular teenager was played. Loved ones heard the sportsman and musician was “liked by everybody that met him.”

His best friend Dara Obakin said: “Tobi was a rare breed of people, ambitious and hard working. In all the time that I’ve known him I didn’t know a single person that didn’t like him. He was a role model, even to those older than him such as myself.”

In his eulogy, Tobi’s father spoke of his son’s desire to succeed in his dream of going to Oxford University and becoming an investment banker.

“He had been to HSBC for one week. He loved it, looking sharp in his suit and catching the train from Kingswood. I was immensely proud of the young man that was developing right before my eyes.

Your mum and dad love you, your friends love you, the people here love you.”

Tobi was buried at Epsom Cemetery. The teenager collapsed at his family home in Vicarage Close, Kingswood, shortly before 7pm on March 5.
