The final three members of a gang have been found guilty of their part in the kidnap and torture of a 22-year-old and making ransom demands of his family.

Kareem Ricketts, 21, from New Addington, Jeremiah Clarke, 20, of Hopton Road, Streatham, and Daniel Gagliano, 22, of Brixton Road, Brixton, were found guilty yesterday (March 25) of kidnapping at gunpoint and torturing Ricky Dellaway, 22, from Streatham, after he picked up his girlfriend’s children from school, Croydon Crown Court heard.

Andre Ricketts, 23, from New Addington was found guilty by the jury on Thursday (March 24).

They also demanded a £25,000 ransom from Mr Dellaway’s family.

Tyrone Payne, 20, of Chiltern Grove, Deptford, Taylor Harris, 19, of St James’ Rd, Croydon, Lerone Vincent, 19, of Norbury Close, Streatham, and a 17-year-old from London had pleaded guilty to several charges relating to the same crime at an earlier stage.

The court heard Mr Dellaway had just picked up the children, aged six and 11, from school in February last year when he noticed a group of youths staring at him.

They followed him to his father’s house and attacked him when he left – pistol whipping him and then bundling him in a car, the court heard.

A woman who witnessed the scene tried to intervene but was forced to retreat after being threatened by the gang. The woman did manage to take the children who had run from the scene to safety.

He was then driven to a flat in Streatham, where he was kicked, punched and burnt while his kidnappers demanded the ransom cash.

They threatened to cut off Mr Dellaway’s fingers and told him they would murder his father and girlfriend if he did not get his father to comply with the demand.

Judge Ruth Downing said: “Somebody stamped on him, somebody burnt him, somebody blackened his eye, somebody cut him and somebody generally roughed him up and treated him very badly.”

After more than 24 hours in the flat armed police stormed the property and freed him.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Turner, from the Met’s Kidnap Unit, said: “This was a particularly harrowing case, whereby a gang deliberately targeted a vulnerable young man and subjected him to the most horrific ordeal.

"These were dangerous individuals who have rightly faced justice for the terror they inflicted on their victim and his family.”

All men will be sentenced on March 28 at Croydon Crown Court.
