Newly formed disability charity, The Epsom Hub, has received an award from the South East Improvement and Efficiency (iESE) partnership for its outstanding contribution to their community.

The Hub was set up less than a year ago and is a unique organisation run by disabled volunteers offering support to the disabled community and their carers.

The team were presented with their award for ‘connecting people’ by Councillor Michael Gosling, Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care.

Sarah Lynch, project co-ordinator at the Epsom Hub said: “I think it’s an amazing achievement and it’s an achievement for every single volunteer that makes this happen.

“We couldn’t operate without the volunteers and the recognition for them is just brilliant.

“They are all disabled people and it’s a life changing experience for them.

“This is the most exciting project I have worked on in 25 years.”

Councillor Gosling said: “This is a national award that recognises that this shop is unique, and as such attracts a lot of attention.

“It shows that the work the volunteers do is known across the social care community across the country.”

A sister hub is due to open in Redhill on May 8.
