Open letter to Councillor Andrew Judge, Merton Council

I thought we were encouraged to recycle, but I understand the green waste collection service is to be withdrawn.

How are the elderly, infirm and those without a car going to dispose of green waste, which is unsuitable for domestic recycling?

Put it in the non-recycling bags? This adds to material sent to landfill.

I thought green waste was used to produce compost for use in parks and other green spaces, which seems a more economically sound and sensible idea, and much better and cheaper than dumping it in landfill.

If there is a surplus of compost, it could perhaps be sold at a reduced price to those who had supplied the green waste, which could be arranged at the same time as collection.

In order to economise, would it not be possible to reduce, rather than discontinue, this valuable service?

I suggest collection could be made by areas to reduce the distance travelled.

Perhaps users could be asked to pay a small fee?
