A huge day of community activity awaits on Saturday as Sutton United hope to secure their nail-biting push for promotion to the Blue Square Conference South.

In addition to the match itself, the club and Sutton police will be staging the second Community Fun Day of the season and hope to attract more than a thousand people down to Gander Green Lane.

Over 700 people attended the last Fun Day in October swelling the matchday crowd to the highest of the season so far.

But the fun does not stop there as the Radio Marsden Sports Show will also be broadcasting live from the ground.

Presented by Lucy Conquest, Kevin Parrott and Jason Reynolds, the show will have all the usual features as well as interviews on the weekend where the club could be crowned Ryman Premier League Champions.

But first and foremost United hope to beat Hastings and pray Bury Town drop points against Cray Wanderers on Sunday to secure their status in the non-league’s second tier.

Sutton United chairman Bruce Elliott said: ''The previous fun days we have held have been a great success and we are delighted to be able to celebrate the end of what has been an excellent season for the club at all levels by staging another.“ Invitations for Saturday have been sent to 13 of the borough's schools but any youngster accompanied by an adult will be admitted for just £1.

Chief Inspector Dave Gair, said: “Sutton’s neighbourhood police teams are part of the community and this exciting family fun day at Sutton United FC is a great way for everyone to come together and enjoy themselves.

“By providing a visible, accessible and recognisable presence in this way we can work to tackle the issues that most concern communities.”

The youngsters will receive free gifts, face painting, and there will be a penalty shoot out competition between children from the represented schools, with the final staged at half time.

If you can’t make it down to Gander Green Lane, you can tune in from 2pm, this Saturday, at radiomarsden.co.uk
