Corinthian Casuals manager Brian Adamson will miss the club's fight for Ryman League survival after undergoing a heart bypass operation this afternoon.

Adamson was sent for tests earlier this week after complaining of chest pains which resulted in him needing the operation and missing the club's 2-1 Surrey Senior Cup semi-final win over Met Police on Wednesday night.

He is set to spend the next week in hospital before a six-week recovery period, leaving assistant managers Kim Harris and Keith Holloway in charge of Casuals' final four league games and their first chance of winning silverware since lifting the London Spartan League Cup in 1995.

"It was a bolt out of the blue," said Holloway.

"The pre-match speech on Wednesday included that fact it would be good to reach the final for Brian and it was nice to give him a positive message before his operation.

"I think I had six messages from him by about 10am this morning and I am sure we will get him to the final by hook or by crook, I don't think he will be able to stay away."

Goals from Joel Thompson and Glenn Boosey gave Casuals, who last won the Senior Cup in 1954, the win against promotion-chasing Met Police and set up the final against either Leatherhead or Molesey at Sutton United's Gander Green Lane ground on May 10.

"For the players themselves it is good to be in the final and for the club it is massive," added Holloway.

"We are historically starved of trophies for several years and it was a good night after the win.

"It frustrates the life out of me though as if we played like that every week we wouldn't be in a relegation battle in the league.

"We have no doubts over the ability of our players but it gets frustrating that people need a big game to get motivated."

Casuals' remaining games: Apr 16 Burgess Hill Town (h), 23 Whitehawk (a), 25 Metropolitan Police (h), 30 Whitstable Town (a), May 10 Surrey Senior Cup Final (Gander Green Lane).
