A Kingston University graduate running the length of Britain dressed as Mr Happy will try to set a new world record at Sunday’s London Marathon.

Cancer survivor Andy Jackson started his 1,062 mile journey from John O’Groats on Sunday, February 27, in an attempt to raise £250,000, the cost of his life-saving treatment, for Children with Leukaemia.

He reached London this week after running 745 miles, and will try to break the world record for the fastest marathon run by someone dressed as a book character on Sunday, April 17.

The record, which currently stands at 4hr 1min 47sec, was set at last year’s London Marathon by Ian Young, who dressed as Sherlock Holmes.

Mr Jackson’s personal best while running in his 7kg Mr Man suit is 4hr 30min.

He said: “It’s going to be a tall order to do it, but I have never been fitter in my life. If the weather cools down a bit I have a fair chance.

“He was only wearing a hat, so it’s not quite the same level of commitment. It would be an amazing achievement.”

His adventure has seen him join the world junior curling competition, tee off at Gleneagles, tour a whiskey distillery, take a sky dive in Milton Keynes and talk to primary school classes.

He said the highlights included meeting people from across the country and running along peaceful canals.

He is due to reach Land’s End on Saturday, May 7.
