A murder investigation has been launched after the shooting of a man on an estate this morning.
A man in his 20s was found by the ambulance service and police with gunshot wounds in Plummer Road off Poynders Road, Clapham, at about 11.30am.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police cordoned off the area this morning, but the Poynders Road cordon has now been lifted some still remain in Plummer Road and immediately around the scene.
A resident observing the work of police said a friend called her to say somebody had been shot.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, said: "I live just up the road and came straight down. It's just horrible that this happened."
A group of clearly distressed young men standing at the scene, who seemed to know the victim, refused to talk to the Streatham Guardian.
Officers are waiting for formal identification of the man and for next of kin to be informed. A post mortem examination will take place tomorrow (April 15) at Greenwich mortuary.
Officers are being helped by number of people with their enquiries. An incident room has been opened under Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison from Trident.
Detectives are keeping an open mind as to what led to the murder.
Trident are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or for anyone who has information to call the incident room on 0208 247 4554 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
