MP Tom Brake is urging local residents to vote for their favourite South Asian restaurant in Beddington, Carshalton and Wallington before the end of the month to compete in the 2011 Tiffin Cup.

The Tiffin Cup, now in its sixth year, is a competition run by a number of MPs to find the best South Asian restaurant in Britain. The winning restaurant will be crowned at an event in Parliament later this year.

Last year’s Tiffin Cup was won by a Swindon restaurant, but Tom hopes that this year a local one can come out on top.

He said: “This competition celebrates the quality and diversity of British food culture and recognises the important and much enjoyed contribution of South Asian cuisine. I would love to see the local community’s choice of restaurant recognised. I always enjoy eating at the Blue Bengal on Carshalton High Street, but it’s up to the people of Carshalton and Wallington to decide.”

This year’s event will aim to raise money for the ‘World Vision’ charity which works globally to speak out for children affected by injustice and poverty across the world.

Chair of the Tiffin Club Keith Vaz MP said: “With the overwhelming success of last year’s competition we are looking forward to another chance to sample some of the best offerings of Indian food in Britain while at the same time raising money for a very worthy charity.”

To vote for your favourite South Asian restaurant in Carshalton and Wallington email your choice to info@tombrake.co.uk or send a facebook message to Tom before the 30th April. For more information about the work of World Vision visit www.worldvision.org.uk.
