The St Nicholas Shopping Centre will hold a family fun day tomorrow to help raise £60,000 for a school girl’s life-changing operation.

Dana Johnston, 12, has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and can only get around using a wheelchair, or by leaning on a standing frame as her legs can’t hold her weight.

Diagnosed at just 13 months old, Dana and her family faced a future of lifetime operations and botox injections, to ease her rigid muscles to try and make her more comfortable.

However, Dana’s mum Sera, discovered a ground-breaking operation is now available in the United States which releases muscle tension in Cerebral Palsy sufferers, allowing many to walk for the first time.

She said: “When I read about this treatment and then discovered how successful it had been for other children, I knew it would save Dana lots of pain and discomfort as she got older.”

Now the family, from Sutton, have organised a fun filled day for the whole family to enjoy, to help raise money to pay for Dana’s operation.

The fun day has something for everyone, including an Easter Egg Hunt, Face Painting, Craft and Cake workshops.

There will also be a Sutton’s Got Talent Competition, with performances starting at 1pm on level 3.

The competition registration desk will be open from 9am, with a £5 entry fee, but performers should be prepared as they will be performing that afternoon!

The Capital FM Street Stars will also be there with their Capital Pad, with two Xbox 360s and four iPads to play on.

There is also the chance to win St Nicholas Shopping vouchers and to be involved in Capital FM’s online photo gallery.

Lisa O’Hanlon, marketing manager at the centre, said: "Being a local girl, we had to help so set about creating a family fun day to help raise as much money as possible to send Dana to America.”
