A fire in Beddington Park last night is believed to have been caused by a discarded barbecue.
Firefighters from Wallington were called to the area of park by London Road at 9.30pm to discover a two sq m section of the park alight.
They suspect a discarded smouldering disposable barbecue had set fire to large amounts of dry wood on the ground.
A firefighter who attended the scene said: “Its important as the evenings get warmer and people use barbecues outside that people check disposable barbecues are completely out before disposing of them.”
The fire was quickly extinguished.
