A policeman stabbed four times in the stomach on Thursday night has suffered serious kidney damage, it has emerged.

PC Nigel Albuery, of the Broad Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, was attacked in Bute Road, Waddon, at about 9.45pm on Thursday, May 19.

He remains in a serious but critical condition in hospital.

His injuries have been described as life changing, but not life threatening.

At Croydon magistrates Court yesterday it emerged he had suffered “life-changing kidney damage”.

At the hearing a teenager was charged with stabbing the plain-clothed policeman.

Alastair Gregson, 18, of Whitefield Avenue, Purley, was remanded in custody by Croydon magistrates, accused of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.

He was remanded in custody until a preliminary hearing at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, June 2.

PC Albuery was given a police commendation for helping at the site of a car crash that killed two teenagers in Sumner Road, West Croydon, on October 14, 2007.
