An incompetent arsonist with an apparent grudge against trees has struck again.

The would-be fire starter twice tried to set alight vegetation in Central Parade, New Addington, last night.

The first tree was attacked at about 10.30pm on Saturday, May 28, but did not catch fire properly.

Nearby residents raised the alarm again four hours later when the arsonist came back for a second go.

New Addington firefighters said there had been similar incidents earlier in the week.

A spokesman said: “It was the same as before – someone keeps setting alight trees. I don’t know if they have done it very well – the first one was not properly alight.”

No-one was hurt in the incidents, and no cars or buildings were damaged.
