A man has been murdered during a shooting in Thornton Heath in the early hours of this morning.

The 41-year-old victim was found by police and paramedics at 2.43am in Langdale Road.

Paramedics struggled to save his life but he died on the scene.

Two suspects, one of whom is described as black, made off in the direction of London Road.

A police spokesman said: "We believe we know the identity of the victim but have yet to inform all next of kin and wait for formal identification to take place."

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

Detectives from Trident are leading the inquiry and an incident room under Detective Chief Inspector John Crossley has been opened at Hendon.
