Epsom businesses pulled together last month to raise thousands for the NSPCC at a charity race night organised by Pickford’s removals company.

Alan Newnham, from Tadworth, and London area manager for Pickford’s organised the evening with the help of local businesses raising £3,443.

Held at the South Hatch Restaurant in Epsom, guests were able to place bets on televised races with the majority of any winnings donated to the children’s charity.

A charity auction was also held with prizes donated by local businesses and celebrities with snooker champion, Jimmy White, donating two games of snooker with him and a signed cue which raised £851.

New Zealand rugby player, Zin Zan Brooke and England footballer, Chopper Harris Chelsea also signed items for the end of evening auction.

Mr Newnham said: “It went really well.

“We had screens going into every room so people could eat and have something to drink.

“It’s good to support a charity and each of the local businesses all sponsored a race and we did a big raffle with prizes donated by local people and businesses.”

Sponsors included A3 van hire, Montagu Waterproofing Ltd Epsom, John Nimmo Printbarn David Erricker Building Surveyor, Jim Boyle Racing Trainer, South Hatch Stables, Ye Old Kings Head, The Kingswood Arms, Epsom Race Course, Epsom Golf Club and Ewell Home Improvements.

Mr Newham wishes to send a ‘massive thank you’ to all those who helped and supported the event.
