A motorist was lucky to escape injury after their car was hit by an object thrown from a bridge over the M25.
The grey BMW was travelling anti-clockwise between junctions nine and eight, close to Walton-on-the-Hill, on Sunday, August 14 when their vehicle was hit at about 4.50pm.
The driver was uninjured.
Three people, believed to be children, were seen throwing objects from one of the bridges at the time of the accident. A group of children were later seen leaving the area on bikes towards Juniper Hill in Mickleham, near Leatherhead.
All were wearing helmets and one was wearing a yellow jumper.
Detective inspector Lucy Drew said: “This type of behaviour defies belief.
“Thankfully, on this occasion, the driver was able to keep control of the vehicle, but the distraction could have easily caused her to lose control and collide with another.
“The consequences could have been much worse, and as a result of one mindless act, the culprits could have been facing charges of manslaughter, or even murder.”
Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
