Three drivers who fraudulently used disabled parking badges have been forced to pay hundreds of pounds in fines.
Debra Rafter-Mitchell, 50, of Conyers Road, Streatham; Andre Robinson, 26, of Mantlet Close, Streatham Vale; and Linda Coleman, 63, of Woodvale Walk, West Norwood, pleaded guilty to fraudulently using the badges, during hearings at Croydon magistrates’ court this week.
Ms Rafter-Mitchell was fined £200 costs and ordered to pay £200 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Mr Robinson was fined £100 costs and ordered to pay £590 costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
Ms Coleman was fined £66 and ordered to pay costs of £100 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Blue badges allow people with severe mobility problems access to on-street parking.
Councillor Phil Thomas, Croydon Council’s cabinet member for environment and highways, said the council would continue to “clamp down” on non-disabled people using them.
He said: “We want to make sure that these badges are not being abused by people who are clogging up parking spaces that are meant for people who really do need the parking privileges they give.
“We have prosecuted a lot of people in the past couple of years and will continue clamping down on it.”
