While most footballers spent June sunning themselves on a beach, Crystal Palace's Jonathan Parr was midway through the Norwegian season.

The 22-year-old has not had a break since January, when he reported for pre-season training with former club Aalesund, but showed no sign of tiredness as he starred in the Eagles' 2-0 win at home to Burnley on Saturday.

He scored the first goal on his home debut before Owen Garvan's second-half penalty wrapped up the game.

Despite obvious concerns he could struggle to complete the whole season with Palace, Parr himself sees no issue with his fitness.

"I think I can go through the season, at least I hope so," he said.

"There are a lot of games but I think I will be ok.

"The manager will probably give me a game off or something if he thinks I look tired but I have a lot of positive energy coming here so I am just looked forward to the season.

"One of my strengths is that I can run a lot and that I am fast so I try to use that as much as I can.

"It was good to get a goal on Saturday but the most important thing was that we got three points.

"Everybody has been really welcoming and made it easy for me but of course it will take some time to get everything in place, to get an apartment and get settled and to not have to think about anything else but football."

Palace had to manage Steffen Iversen's appearances last season when he joined in January following a full season in Norway, but with Parr 12 years Iversen's junior, manager Dougie Freedman thinks lasting the distance will not be a problem for Parr.

"We just have to manage him in a certain way," he said.

"And that's more a mental thing than a physical thing, make sure we give him time to go back and see his mum and dad."
