Two leisure centres in the borough are to set to receive a £1 million refurbishment.
Cheam Leisure Centre and Sutton Arena will each get £950,000 through contractor Everyone Active.
Work on the centres will begin in the next few weeks and will include new changing room facilities for the Cheam Leisure Centre and a new Gym for Sutton Arena. Improvements will be completed before the Westcroft Leisure Centre closes for a £11m rebuild in October.
The extra capacity and better facilities mean the other centres will be better equipped for an increase in the user numbers expected.
Councillor Graham Tope, Sutton Council's leisure spokesman, said: “This is great news; the centres will be given a major upgrade at absolutely no expense to the council or residents."
Mark Basker, contract manager for Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce this significant investment in both Cheam Leisure Centre and Sutton Arena which will mean that local people will be able to access great facilities and keep active on a regular basis despite the closure of Westcroft Leisure Centre during the rebuild."
