Newts, pondskaters and frogs were the main attraction at a community wildlife explorers day.

Edgecombe Hall Residents Association, environmental regeneration charity Groundwork London and Wandsworth Council hosted the fun day at the Edgecombe estate, in Whitlock Drive, Southfields.

The borough's mayor Councillor Jane Cooper attended the event, which featured pond dipping, making bird boxes and bat boxes.

Coun Cooper also oversaw the arrival of two white campbell ducks and a drake who were introduced to the main pond earlier this month.

Edgecombe Hall Residents Association and the environmental regeneration charity Groundwork London have been delivering wildlife enhancements to the estate's green spaces in an attempt to attract more wildlife and biodiversity to the area.

Improvements are being funded by the Big Lottery's Community Wildlife Fund and volunteers have been undertaking many practical improvements including cleaning the pond and planting lilies, clearing brambles and planting a wildflower meadow.
