Croydon Borough Commander Adrian Roberts has thanked the public for their overwhelming support, following last week's riots.
He said: "I am staggered by the number of messages I have received in the wake of last week's disorder.
"It would be impossible to reply to every single letter and email, but rest assured we are reading them all and making sure staff get to see them.
"The support and thanks of the community we serve means so much to me and my staff, and has made a difficult and challenging time easier to bear.
"It has been a week since London and indeed the country bore witness to unprecedented levels of mass disorder.
"Croydon was one of the worst affected boroughs and my officers and their colleagues across the organisation continue to work tirelessly with our partners and community to bring those responsible to justice."
