Every member of a 14-strong team of Sutton officers sent to the first riots in Tottenham last Saturday night was injured.

PC Fash Mohammadi and PC Alex Law both required hospital treatment, after the team was injured by a group of at least 100 youths hurling missiles.

Despite PC Law sustaining a serious injury to his foot and PC Mohammadi having a burst eardrum they both went straight back to work the next day.

PC Mohammadi, 27, said: "We were the first to arrive on the scene and I have never seen anything like it.

"Someone threw a brick at my head which knocked me out.

"I was pulled to safety by my colleagues. There were burning buildings all around me and people hurling missiles, bricks and bottles."

PC Law, 31, said: "It was the worst case of violence I have ever seen in ten years as a PC.

Someone threw a bottle at me and I had to go to hospital after the 24 hour shift.

I was told to rest but went back to work, it's business as usual."

About 25 Sutton officers received injuries over the four days of rioting in London.

On average 35 to 40 officers were sent out of the borough each day to help combat rioting across London.

All of the borough's police vans were damaged, with one having its windscreen replaced twice after it was smashed by rioters.

Six riot shields were completely destroyed, while many others were damaged.
