A man will face trial after pleading not guilty to mowing down a heavily pregnant woman and her mother whose car was stolen.

Darren Stubbs, of Mitcham Road, Croydon, appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday charged with grievous bodily harm against Anna Swervyn, a 54-year-old grandmother whose pelvis was crushed after being run over by the silver Audi A3 in Mitcham.

The 36-year-old was also accused of dangerous driving and actual bodily harm for also hitting Beata Marek, Mrs Swervyn's daughter, with the car.

Mrs Marek was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident on May 24, but thankfully has since giving birth to a healthy baby boy named Maximilian.

She said: "We're just so happy my mum is alive and that is the most important thing."

Mr Stubbs was remanded in custody until his trial begins on November 2.
