A teenage athlete with brittle bone disease has been shortlisted to become an Olympic torch bearer.
A nurse at Kingston Hospital successfully nominated 14-year-old Jack Binstead for the honour after London 2012 organisers asked to hear about exceptional people who deserved recognition.
In April, the Chessington Community College pupil won the London mini-marathon despite having a dislocated hip.
He said: “It’s brilliant. It would be a great experience to be able to carry the torch. I will be very excited when I hear.
“My aim is to take part in the 2016 Paralympics.
“I have come a long way in a single year. This is the first year I have been training alongside David Weir.”
A panel of 12 will decide by December whether Jack is picked.
His mother, Penny, said: “It would be amazing because he not only would be carrying this torch, which will go down in history, there’s everything that goes with it.
“It would be a big experience for all the family, especially him because he wants to be in the Paralympics one day."
