The first ever Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) awareness week is being held next week to help raise awareness of the disorder which affects about four per cent of children nationwide.
The Croydon ADHD Network is holding a variety of events from September 18 to 24 to support sufferers and their families in the Croydon area.
ADHD is the most common disorder of childhood and while some children grow out of the condition, it is recognised that it can persist into adulthood.
It is a neurological condition which is characterised by hyperactivity, attention problems and impulsiveness.
The Croydon ADHD Network is a multidisciplinary team of professionals who work together to provide services to support young people with ADHD and their families.
Events l Monday 18 - Sunday September 24: A display about ADHD in the foyer of Croydon Clocktower. Noon to 2pm, Mon to Fri, and Sun, and from 2pm to 4pm on Sat.
l Tuesday, September 19, 7.30pm to 9.30pm: ADHD Parent Support Group will be meeting at the Children's Library, the Clocktower. The library has a small collection of books on ADHD, which is in the Children's Library. The group is open to parents and carers of children who have been diagnosed with ADHD.
l Saturday 23rd September 10am to 1pm Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - for relatives and friends. Room 1, 8th Floor, Leon House, 233 High Street, Croydon. For tickets contact Denise Griffin on 020 8686 0393.
