A man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a 25-year-old woman in Epsom.

A 31-year-old man, from Epsom, was arrested on Monday, September 19, and has been released on police bail until October 4 pending further enquiries.

The victim met two black men in the Assembly Rooms pub, High Street, at approximately 10.30pm on Wednesday, 7 September.

When the pub closed at about midnight, it is believed the victim was taken north along Waterloo Road before being raped at an address in the early hours of Thursday, 8 September.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Clive Vale said: "This has been a huge investigation involving a large number of officers who have worked tirelessly to gather vital evidence.

"I hope this development reassures the victim, and the wider Epsom community, that sexual offences are taken very seriously by Surrey Police and we will do all we can to support victims of crime.

"We believe the man captured on CCTV wearing a white cap is a significant witness and I would appeal to him to come forward so he can assist us with this investigation.

"I urge anyone who was out in Epsom on Wednesday, September 7, who has not yet spoken to an officer to do so as soon as possible.

"Last week we carried out an anniversary visit in Epsom and spoke to a number of new witnesses but it is vital anyone who has any information about this incident comes forward."

The man police want to speak to is black, in his late 20s, about 5ft 9’, medium build with a shaved head.

He was wearing blue jeans and an orange top.
