A sport coach from Lambeth won a major prize after leading the borough's sailing team to victory for the first time.
Richard Sheridan won the ‘Coach of the Year’ award at the London Youth Games (LYG) following his team’s victory in the competition.
The sailors entered five out of six classes, winning gold medals in three and silver in two.
Olympic 100m gold medallist Linford Christie and Lambeth councillor Florence Nosegbe presented Mr Sheridan with his award.
He said: "It’s very humbling. I was very fortunate coach because I had an incredible team. The amount of sailing talent in this team is unreal.
"My main job as the coach is just to be a motivator and point them in the right direction. I just had to make sure they turned up to training and just to instil the belief to go along with that ability.
"The whole team rocked and thanks to them I’ve turned out to be team manager of the year."
The LYG is a multi-sport event held annually for young people aged 7 to 18. It was founded in 1977.
