A pair of teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze in Whyteleafe.

Surrey Police arrested a 15-year-old from Kenley on Wednesday, September 21, and a 16-year-old from Thornton Heath on Thursday, September 22 in connection with a fire at a three-storey building.

The fire, at the Old Boatyard, Godstone Road, Whyteleafe, happened at around 12.30am on Tuesday, September 20.

No one was inside the building at the time of the arson.

Detective Constable Dale Brunt said: “We are committed to establishing the facts surrounding this arson and I would urge anyone with any information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken to an officer to come forward.

“This reckless arson resulted in extensive structural damage to the building which meant it had to be demolished.

“I hope these swift arrests reassure the community we are determined to identify those responsible for this arson and ensure they are brought to justice.

"I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen something or has information they feel is relevant, to please give Surrey Police a call.”
