Parents and children released 100 balloons in a Lambeth park on Tuesday to promote the work of an adoption charity.

The balloon race in Myatt’s Field Park raised £400 for PACT (Parents and Children Together), which has provided long-term fostering across London since September 2010.

The charity said it works to provide permanent homes for ‘hard to place’ children. 28 children have been fostered or adopted by new families since the scheme was rolled out to London.

Speaking after the event, the charity’s chief executive Jan Fishwick said: "2011 is PACT’s 100 year anniversary and the celebration of our first year providing services in London.

"Our London adoption team provide an excellent service and I’m keen to encourage anyone thinking about helping a child through adoption and long-term fostering to get in touch."
