Five fire engines remain at the scene of a tyre recycling plant devastated in a blaze yesterday.

Fire crews were called to Neolay's warehouse on Purley Way just after 1.15am yesterday morning.

Firefighters are currently using aerial ladder platforms to shoot water down on to the remaining pockets of fire.

The two storey building has been badly damaged in the blaze, with part of the roof collapsing.

The fire caused travel chaos yesterday when an exclusion zone was put in place around the site, closing the A23 in both directions.

One commuter, who gave her name as Lindsey said: "I work in the colonades and I tried to get round both ways but had to leave my car in Pampisford Road and walk in.

"The smoke was bad and you could smell burning rubber in the building. After lunch the roof collapsed and the smoke was worse, by the time we left the office the smoke was getting thicker and ash was everywhere."
