Money raised as part of a golf club’s centenary celebrations will be spent on a new play area for children in hospital.

Members of Croham Hurst Golf Club, South Croydon, have so far collected more than £10,000 including funds from a Gala Weekend on September 24 and 25 for the Children in Mayday charity fund.

The fund, for Croydon University Hospital, was set up specifically by the club’s centenary captains Bob Chapman and Vicky Leach.

Mrs Leach told members: “Due to your generosity and the hard work of so many people over the year I am happy to tell you that we have raised slightly north of £10,000 which is a fantastic effort.”

Saturday saw nearly 200 guests enjoy a black tie dinner followed by a fun day on Sunday including demonstrations from police dogs, falconry and a children’s entertainer.

Mr Chapman said: “This is a club full of wonderful generous people with a fantastic history. A lot of members have worked very hard over a number of years to make sure that the many functions and golf events we have held to celebrate our centenary this year have been a success.
