Epsom Common has been awarded a Green Flag Award for the fifth year running for being a high-quality green space.

The Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Sheila Carlson, attended a special ceremony lastWednesday, September 21 outside Epsom Common Clubs at Stamford Green to celebrate the achievement.

Martin Gandy, Chairman of the Epsom Common Association, raised the flag along with Councillor Jan Mason, Councillor Paul Ardern-Jones, Epsom Common Working Men’s Club members and officers and volunteers from the Council's countryside team.

Councillor Jan Mason, chairman of the leisure committee, said: "This is a tremendous achievement to be given a Green Flag for the fifth year running, and demonstrates our commitment to protecting and enhancing this very special place.

"This award is credit to all those who help care for Epsom Common from the council’s countryside team and ranger service as well as the many volunteers who dedicate their spare time to look after such an important area."

Epsom Common, a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), is one of a record number of parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year.
