A survey to help Surrey’s push for 100 per cent super fast broadband coverage has been launched.

Residents and businesses are being asked to support the drive and fill out online surveys to show the areas of Surrey with poor broadband coverage.

The questionnaires seek to build a picture of speeds in homes and companies as part of the push to connect places in Surrey that will miss out on BT’s roll-out of super fast broadband.

Up to 20 per cent of the county’s 500,000 homes and businesses are not included in BT’s current plans.

The county council asked private sector companies to register their interest to target those areas in July, and bids are currently being accepted.

Outgoing leader of the council, Councillor Andrew Povey said: “Everyone should have access to high quality broadband and we are committed to making sure that those in rural areas and other parts of Surrey where service is patchy are not left behind.

“Local people know their areas best and they can help us ensure we get the broadband infrastructure in place for everyone in Surrey. We want them to tell us about their current broadband access, how they use the internet and what they need for the future.”
