The A3 was closed for seven hours on Sunday, as emergency services worked to clear the scene of a serious crash.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision on September 25, which took place at about 2am on the northbound carriageway, near Esher.

A white Mercedes panel van collided with a grey Rover 75 Classic and two men, including a 26-year-old man with an arm injury, were both taken to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, with head injuries.

The driver and passenger in the Rover were not injured in the incident.

Police closed the northbound carriageway of the A3 at the junction with the A244 Copsem Lane while the injured men were treated and the vehicles were recovered.

The road was fully reopened at about 9am.
