A block of flats in Sutton was evacuated after a chip pan fire.

About 50 people had to leave Andrewes House in Collingwood Road, when the fire started at about 8pm on Monday, September 26.

A young mum and her four-month-old baby were in their flat when the pan overheated, catching fire.

The fire spread to the kitchen unit.

The mum threw the flaming pan out of her window.

Firefighters said she put herself in danger of burns by not leaving the pan and exiting the property for firefighters to deal with the fire.

Two firefighters using breathing apparatus put out the fire.

Residents left the flats after corridors in the housing block filled with smoke.
