A huge Crystal Palace fan is critical in hospital after a car crash in Australia.

Tommy Meyers from Bromley was hit by a 4x4 in Melbourne, where he had been studying as part of his degree.

The 20-year-old is on life support, with his condition critical but stable.

He suffered a ruptured aorta artery, a fractured right femur and a fractured left fibia and tibia. Tommy's dad Tony said "He is receiving fantastic care and treatment at the hospital and everyone has been so helpful and supportive.

“Our greatest hope is that he has not sustained any injury to his brain.”

A website and fund has been set up to provide support for Tommy and his family while abroad and to get him home when he is fit to travel.

Tommy, who was training to be a doctor at Leeds University, had already seen his life changed after being mauled by a police dog.

The Meyers family had been to watch Palace play away at Reading in September of last year.

They were on the Reading platform waiting for the Paddington bound train to arrive when some trouble flared up between fans and the police.

A police officer approached Tommy and handcuffed him seemingly without explanation.

A dog was allegedly then deployed whilst Tommy was on the floor and embedded its teeth into his face a few millimetres below his eyes.

He was given thirty stitches and antibiotics were dispensed but not administered, which led to his wounds becoming infected.

He was subsequently cleared of all charges at his trial.

A year later and he is fighting for his life in Alfred Hospital.

A spokesman for Crystal Palace FC said: “The thoughts of everyone at Crystal Palace are with Tommy as he continues his fight.”
