Homes in Merton Park and Wimbledon could see taps run dry, after a faulty pipe caused traffic chaos in Morden this morning.
Drivers said the leak in the area around Morden Road saw lanes of traffic in nearby London Road closed off. One motorist said it took him two hours and 10 minutes to drive from Martin Way in Raynes Park to Colliers Wood because of the gridlock.
A Statement on the Thames Water website said customers in the SW19 area "may be without water". The company apologised for any inconvenience caused, and said it was investigating the problem.
