The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton today.

The royal couple are opening the Marsden's new specialist children's cancer treatment ward, the Oak Centre for Children and Young People.

Hundreds of residents are expected to try and catch a glimpse of the newly-weds as they arrive at the hospital.

The couple will then be given a tour of the new children’s centre, where they will meet staff and patients.

The Duke will also be invited to unveil a plaque to officially open the centre before he and the Duchess meet patients, hospital staff and key donors and fundraisers.

During the visit, William will be reunited with Alice Marples, a cancer patient who interviewed him two years ago for the CBBC Newsround programme.

The 12-year-old will present Kate with a bouquet of flowers when she arrives at the hospital.

Prince William became the cancer hospital's president in May 2007 having undertaken two days of work experience there in 2005.

The position was previously held by his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Oak Centre that the couple will be opening is one of the largest comprehensive children's cancer centres in Europe, with 31 beds.

It will see almost 600 inpatients and more than 5,000 day patients every year.
