An alert resident called the fire brigade after noticing a fire in a park in the middle of the night.

The fire happened at about 2am on Sunday, October 2, in a seating area in Brickfields Meadows, on Dickensons Lane, Woodside.

Firefighters from Woodside station spent about 30 minutes putting out the fire, and extinguishing any hot spots.

A spokesman said the fire appeared to have been started deliberately, but they had not notified the police.

She said: “A lady had seen a very small fire from her window. It turned out there was a little seating area and someone had started a fire there, but it was very small and easily controlled.

“We had to make sure everything was damped down as it was quite hot yesterday and we did not want it to start again.

“Obviously someone had started a small fire to keep warm.”
